Newsflash!

Paso Robles, a book of images in the Images of America series by Arcadia Publishing Company, has just been released. The 128-page book has more than 200 images of Paso Robles' rich heritage, beginning with the magnificient 125-room hotel completed in 1891, for which the little town became well-known. Tourists came to the little community for the healing waters of the mineral springs and mud baths. There was steady development after 1886 when the railroad arrived and town lots were auctioned. Area homesteaders raised cattle, grew grain, and planted fruit, walnut, and almond orchards.

Paso Robles books are available at the Pioneer Museum with proceeds from sales benefiting the nonprofit museum. The books sell for $21.00, including California sales tax. If you would like to order one by mail, please send a check payable to Pioneer Museum, in the amount of $24.00 to cover the book, postage and handling. Send to:

Special Events:

The Paso Gathering, a show and sale of western art and cowboy gear, is held on Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of November.

In addition to western artists, there are saddle makers, rawhide braiders, bit and spur makers, boot makers, silversmiths, horsehair hitchers and collectibles. The focus of the show is on contemporary artists and gear makers who hold their talent and skills to the traditional ways.

Selection of exhibitors for the juried show is based on talent and quality. At the Paso Gathering you can find a special handmade piece, meet the one who made it, and have something worth passing down to the next generation.

The Paso Gathering, founded in 1993 by Paso Robles resident Mike Crouch and Cayucos artist and rancher Phil Tognazzini, is a major fundraiser for the nonprofit Paso Robles Pioneer Museum. Doors open for the Paso Gathering at 10:00 a.m. on both days, and there is a nominal admission fee ($5 or less). For additional information click here.
